Anthropic embeds invisible watermarks in all Claude output

Anthropic is embedding invisible watermarks in text generated by Claude models and attaching signed C2PA provenance metadata to generated files — rolling the EU AI Act's transparency code out to users worldwide, not just in Europe. In a support document published Monday, the company said every Claude model launched on or after August 2, 2026 embeds a machine-readable mark in generated text that travels with copy-paste and can survive light editing, while supported files like PNG, JPG, and SVG carry C2PA-standard signed metadata. The markings apply across Claude, the API, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, and cloud partners everywhere; older models will be updated later. The global scope is the striking choice: Anthropic is treating a Brussels requirement as the default for every user, which buys credibility with regulators and skepticism from everyone else. The Register notes C2PA already has open-source removal tools, and critics are already floating paraphrase attacks that could strip the marks — provenance that only works when nobody tries to defeat it is a feature, not a guarantee.
Nvidia is reportedly testing versions of its Rubin Ultra accelerator with as little as 192 GB of memory — down from the 1 TB of HBM4E it announced at GTC 2025 — because HBM4E supply can't keep pace with the planned late-2027 launch. The Information reports at least three prototypes have been tested, including 192 GB and 256 GB configurations, some stepping back to the older HBM4 standard; the complexity of HBM4E's customizable base logic die has strained memory makers. Nvidia is weighing the cuts because HBM can account for more than half an advanced chip's cost, so smaller footprints stretch scarce supply across more GPUs and could lower prices. The tradeoff is performance — big-model customers may need more GPUs — though Nvidia insists it continually optimizes compute, networking, and memory, and nothing is final.
